The birth of ACTIA Aerospace
The creation of ACTIA Aerospace was inevitable for the ACTIA group. Long before bearing this name, many of the Group’s activities were already deeply rooted in the aerospace sector. In January 2024, ACTIA Aerospace was officially created to structure and bring together all activities related to aeronautics, defense and space under one banner, complementing the three other divisions of the Group: Mobility, Energy & Engineering. While the division and its name are recent in the aerospace landscape, these activities have actually been an integral part of ACTIA for decades.
Aeronautics heritage
For over 25 years, ACTIA has supported major players in the aeronautics industry as an EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) partner. In 2005, to meet demand, ACTIA created the AeroGP group, a team of trained employees specifically dedicated to aeronautical activities, the beginnings of what would become 20 years later, ACTIA Aerospace. In 2008, ACTIA became the first European EMS manufacturer certified NADCAP. In both civil and military aviation, ACTIA has equipped a wide range of aircraft over the years through its industrial capabilities.
Space heritage
ACTIA entered the space sector in 2016, anticipating the rise of New Space. Between cost control, reduction of time to orbit and quality requirements, the group gradually asserted its legitimacy in this rapidly transforming market. This investment and structuring strategy paid off, with recognition in 2020 as Best Newcomer in the Space Industry. Since then, ACTIA has supported its partners by developing and producing critical electronic equipment for satellite constellations.
To accelerate its development and integrate key design skills, ACTIA Aerospace acquired STEEL Electronique in May 2024. With over 50 years of expertise, this French company is a historic player in space electronics, recognized for the reliability and diversity of its embedded equipment.
Originating from STEEL Technologies, founded in 1964, the company embarked on the space adventure from the late 1960s with collaborations on CNES balloons, contributing notably to scientific missions such as solar corona observation. From the 1970s, STEEL participated in major international space programs, with equipment onboard iconic missions such as Soyuz, the Mir station, the American shuttle and the Giotto probe.
In 1997, the subsidiary STEEL Electronique took flight and devoted itself entirely to space activities, evolving from manned flights to satellites and consolidating its positioning on critical electronic systems. Today, its integration within ACTIA strengthens the group’s ability to offer complete and innovative solutions to meet the new challenges of space.

SatCom heritage
The SatCom story began in 1972 in Dinard, Brittany, under the name Dateno, making it an activity even older than the ACTIA group itself, founded in 1986. Acquired by Sodielec in 1994, then by ACTIA in 2000, the company has continued to evolve: it became Sodielec in 2004, ACTIA Sodielec in 2008, ACTIA Telecom in 2014, and finally ACTIA Aerospace in 2024. For 50 years, ACTIA, formerly Dateno, have carried the most ambitious and avant-garde projects.
An undisputed French player in SatCom, ACTIA has forged unique expertise serving civil, private and military markets. ACTIA contributed to the growth and democratization of satellite communication systems and positioned itself as a supplier to major powers and industrial giants.

ACTIA Aerospace: bringing together 50 years of history and innovation
Bringing together these historic expertises in aeronautics, space and satellite communications (SatCom) under a single identity therefore seemed the most obvious next step. ACTIA Aerospace was thus officially born in 2024, carrying decades of know-how towards the future of aerospace innovation.
The links between ACTIA Aerospace and STEEL Electronique
Since 2024, STEEL Electronique has been a subsidiary of ACTIA Aerospace, a division of the ACTIA group.
This strategic acquisition marks a new chapter for STEEL Electronique — a period of accelerated growth, strengthened skills and openness to new opportunities.
Supported by the industrial power and international presence of the ACTIA group, STEEL Electronique is now better positioned to conquer new markets, respond to higher production volumes and drive innovation.
More than just a subsidiary, it is a true partnership, where expertise, resources and advanced production tools combine to serve customers with even more efficiency and ambition.
